The Glutathione S-transferase Activity of Alkaline Reduced Water(ARW) on Sprague-Dawley Rats

Abstract
Alkaline reduced water (ARW) was made not by electrolysis but by the physical chem-istry method. The alkaline reduced water showed pH10.5 and oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) -195 mV. After feeding this water to 6 weeks Sprague-Dawley rats (wt. 1100¡¾9 g) for 4 weeks, there was no weight difference between control group and experimental group. The group that fed ARW showed the lower activity of Glutathiones-transferase (GST) than the control group. There was significant difference between two groups of GST activity detected from liver extracts (p<0.01). Activity of GST in ARW group was 32.00 0 ¡¾ 18.69 and the control group was 49.04 ¡Æ ¡¾ 14.45. This results suggested that ARW made the role of GST activity as to removing the oxidants effectively. So we consider that ARW could be used as the reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenger.
